Clean your vehicle looks like such a chore but with our handy guide it doesn’t seem so bad. Taking your car to a car wash service every two weeks can be extremely expensive and let’s face it, not all of us do this monthly. Imagine all that dirt accumulating on your vehicle, which by the way you can’t see, destroying its beauty. So to help keep your vehicle in great condition, follow these steps. Always follow the guidelines for the products you decide to use.
One of the biggest mistakes most people make during car cleaning is that they use dishwashing liquid or detergent to wash the car. While these products may remove the dirt, it also strips off the wax and leaves the paint vulnerable to rust. So use some car shampoo and rub in the suds with a soft cleaning mitt. Instead of cleaning the soap with buckets of water, use a high pressure washer as this will help remove the stubborn dirt stuck on. Don’t forget to clean your wheels well as lots of dirt gets in there. If parts of your car body, bumper or car hood are very dirty, greasy or muddy, we recommend that you first use a WD-40 SPECIALIST® FAST ACTING DEGREASER.
Once you are happy that the vehicle is clean, wipe it down with a chamois cloth or similar so that you aren’t left with water marks on your car.
Polishing is quite different from waxing. Though this step is optional, it can remove the lighter scratches from the car’s surface. Pour a little car polish on to a pad and wipe it all over the car until streak free.
No car cleaning is complete without wax. Waxing the car protects it from the UV rays and prevents fading. It also protects the car’s paint from bird droppings. Apply a small amount of wax on a foam wax applicator and rub it in circular motions. There are two types of wax – one that gives a white shine finish and other that gives a glossy finish. Depending on your car’s paint colour, you can choose any one.
After cleaning the glass of your vehicle with soap and wiping out the excess of moisture, spray a little glass cleaner on it and rub it in to remove the dirt and make them shine. Make sure to roll down the window and clean the top of the glass.
Now to protect the metal parts of your clean vehicle from rust, use WD-40 Multi-Use-Product. Just spray a little on the areas you want to protect, watch out for drips so have a rag handy. If you are unsure to spray it on something then always check with the manufacturer before you do, and never spray it on your tyres as you’ll lose the grip.
