We have already discovered that a piece of chewing gum is stuck to our clothes. However, there’s no need to panic ! You can remove chewing gum from clothes easily through some quick methods. This article will be discussing some of the very best.
Who would’ve known that removing chewing gum for clothes could be as easy as refrigerating our clothes?
All that you have to do is fold your clothes in a manner that the affected part of the fabric is at the very top. While doing so, make sure that the gum doesn’t smear any further or stick to other parts of the fabric.
After this, get yourself a plastic bag or a freezer bag to seal your clothes in. Also, make sure that the gum does not stick to the roof of the plastic. Now seal the bag and place it into your freezer – do this confidently, no matter how odd it seems. If you need to explain, then you should know that freezing gum reduces its stickiness almost completely.
After a couple of hours, remove clothes from the freezer and the bag to scrape away with a butter knife, a round tip knife or even your fingernails. You’ll notice that it’ll come off very easily!
To do this, you will have to get yourself a piece of cardboard and place it on your ironing board. This makes sure the chewing gum doesn’t stick to your ironing board. Now, you need to place your damaged piece of clothing on the cardboard so that the chewing gum is touching it face down and there is only one layer of clothing to iron over.
Once this has been done, set your iron to medium heat and iron over the area where the gum is stuck. You will have to continue to do so until the chewing gum loosens. When it does, you can lift your clothes to reveal that the gum has stuck on to the cardboard. Be careful when using your iron to avoid damaging your fabric.
Pour some WD-40 generously on a sponge or a rag. Now, rub the affected area to remove stuck chewing gum. Remember to perform a patch test before applying WD-40 to clothing or any material.
Once this has been done, wait for a couple of minutes for the WD-40 to attack the gum. Now, get your hands on a wooden sponge or spatula and gently attack the affected area to remove gum from your clothes. You’ll find that it will begin to roll off much more easily as opposed to your first desperate attempts.
Once the gum is off, all you need to do is soak the affected area with a fabric softener – preferably scented – and wash away with water and soap. When you rinse and dry your clothes, you’ll see that your little home experiment was an absolute success!
