If The Bike Accessories Are Jammed
If the gears on the bike accessories have started to jam or if they don’t move as freely as they used to, it means they have built up dirt on the bike accessories and the moving parts, like gears on the inside. The sludge jams the moving parts and makes them difficult to move. If not taken care of, it can also ruin and break the equipment and machinery down.
If you take care of the bike accessories yourself it won’t be difficult for you to clear the jams. All you need is a WD-40 spray can and some human help. After having opened the case, locate all the moving parts. Spray good amounts of WD-40 on all the moving parts while slowly moving the pedals using human help.
This will flush out all the sludge build up on the gears and other moving bike accessories. Please be aware of all dangers and use the safety precautions to make sure you do not injure yourself while doing the task.
If The Bike Accessories Are Rusted
If you open the bike casing and notice that gears and other bike accessories are rusted, you will need to clean the rust before you can move ahead with lubricating the gears. For this you will need a rigid but small brush. A hard toothbrush might also work fine.
Spray the WD-40 in good amount on the rusted areas and start scrubbing with the toothbrush. You will see shiny metal appearing from underneath. Repeat this process as many times as needed to fully get rid of the rust.
Once you are done, rinse the gears and bike accessories with the WD-40 spray to get rid of the residue. A coating of WD-40 will stop rust from coming back.
