How do I Clean and Lubricate a Patio Door?

Here is how you can clean and lubricate your patio door without much hassle.

Clean loose debris

Fetch your vacuum from the basement or storage and use its blower shoot to suck away all the loose bits of dirt and dust. First doo one side of the door then the other. Repeat the same sequence for the door frame as well.

You can have two kinds of patio doors, sliding or non-sliding. Whichever style of door you have you are going to wipe away the debris on it one side at a time. If you have the sliding kind, then along with the door frame and the door you are going to have to use the shoot to clean the track area too.

Track area can be strewn with loose pet hair so make sure you don’t miss out any strands there while cleaning.

Clean the door with a cleaner

Grab a nonabrasive home cleaner and spray some over the parts of the door that look drab and dirty. Take a clean rag to apply and rub the solution on the door. Once the door is squeaky clean, you can move onto the next step.

Get a lubricant

If you have a specific kind of lubricant that you use to smooth out surfaces, bring that, if not, then we’d recommend you to use a silicone spray lubricant such as WD-40 Specialist Silicone Lubricant or just WD-40 Multi Use Product. It’s water resistant and doesn’t oxidize easily. And it elevates the sliding capabilities of any surface exponentially.

If you have a sliding door, use a spray and squirt a generous amount of it on the track site and corners of the door. But if you have a non-sliding door, then use a squirting bottle or a can with nozzle. You need to get the oil to the hinges, using a spray might not provide you enough precision.

Squirt out the selected lubricant on the hinges of the door. Open and close the door multiple times to ensure glitch free movement.

Even when dealing with a sliding door, open and close the door multiple times while applying lubricant.

After you are done cleaning and greasing the door, take a clean rag and wipe off any excess solution from the door. And your patio door is now ready to roll.
