Nothing kills the mood for an adventure faster than the zipper of your luggage getting stuck. Is the universe signaling you to postpone your trip? Hell, no! The universe is signaling you to learn how to lubricate luggage zippers and take more efficient care of them.
So, don’t postpone your mood and give the following article a read; it shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes, trust us.
Step 1: Keep Your Luggage Zippers Clean
It may be hard to believe but even the smallest specks of dust can ruin your luggage zippers. This is why you need to thoroughly clean your zippers once you are back from your campsite or any trip for that matter. You may even do this at the same time you are cleaning your room.
All you would have to do is use a lint cloth to clean the zippers. We prefer that you use gentle soap and warm water to free up all the grime and dirt that has been caked between the teeth. Make sure that you scrub over the zipper teeth with caution, as you should make sure that the entire soapy residue has been wiped off.
If you need a quick clean, then you may also go ahead and use canned air. Canned air, for those who aren’t familiar with the term, is the method we use for cleaning keyboards.
Step 2: Lubricate Luggage Zippers Using WD-40
There are so many ways that you can lubricate your luggage zippers such as with the help of a white candle, lip balm, olive oil, graphite pencils (for sensitive zippers). While all of these strategies may work fine, there are other options if these fail.
WD-40 will not only lubricate your luggage zippers but will also make sure that they are steered clear from rust and corrosion. This product repels moisture and water from any surface it is applied over, which is why any damage the zippers may receive on your trips would be harmless.
Now, the best way of applying WD-40 on luggage zippers is to do so when they are closed but we’re here because your luggage zippers are stuck. This is why you need to get hold of a clean washcloth or lint cloth. On one corner of this cloth, you will apply WD-40 with the help of the nozzle and make sure you don’t apply too much.
Next, you will grip one side of the luggage zippers with the cloth and run the wet side over the zipper tracks. This step needs to be repeated on the other side of the zipper tracks as well. Make sure any excess residue is wiped off.
Once the WD-40 has been applied, test the luggage zipper to check whether it is unstuck. See! There was nothing to worry about in the first place.
Remember to wash your hands after use, especially if any excess WD-40 has come into contact with them.
