You need to do simple maintenance on your roller shutters and metal shutters at least once a year to ensure that their sliding guides always function perfectly.
Roller shutter maintenance: strap and sliding guides
First you need to check the condition of the roller shutter strap as well as the winder.
If you need to replace the strap, remove the old one with the roller shutter completely raised and locked (using a wooden rod or similar) and insert the new one in the pulley at the top, while the other end rolls around the winder (previously wound taut).
If there is any resistance when pulling the strap, you should lubricate the lateral sliding guides. We suggest using WD-40 Specialist Anti-Friction Dry PTFE Lubricant, which leaves a dry lubricant film inside the guides, without attracting dust or dirt. The product dries quickly and is compatible with all metals and plastics.
If the winding pulley located at the top inside the roller shutter box creaks, first remove any dust with a vacuum and then lubricate with WD-40 Flexible Straw System, using its adjustable straw to spray directly onto the ball bearing and sliding guides. Spray exactly the same parts on the other side of the winding shaft. Of course, you also need to thoroughly clean all the slats of the roller shutter, both inside and outside.
Metal shutter maintenance: lateral sliding guides
These shutters basically require the same maintenance as roller shutters, except for the strap (which is not present). The lateral guides are subjected to considerable friction: it’s best to use WD-40 Specialist High Performance Silicone Lubricant on them, which has excellent lubricating properties and doesn’t attract dirt, keeping any rubber parts in good condition. Then use WD-40 Specialist Long Lasting Spray Grease
If the roller shutter or metal shutter is lifted by means of an electric motor, you should also lubricate the bearings and joints of the lifting mechanism with WD-40 Multi-Use Product.
Maintenance of movable window grates
The movable metal grates of windows and doors are particularly exposed to smog, water and frost. After thoroughly cleaning each part, their protective paint must be examined. If lacking anywhere, it must be restored with an anti-rust treatment and then paint.
Also in this case, the joints, pins, hinges and any other rotation and sliding systems must be lubricated with WD-40 Specialist High Performance Silicone Lubricant, which ensures the perfect movement of its parts. Its formula is compatible with all metals, plastics, rubber and wood that may be on the grates.
