Spring means lots of barbeques, get-togethers, and cocktail parties. And in order to be the perfect host, you need your house to be in the best shape. We all know winter can leave any house a bit disheveled, but with a few spring home maintenance tips, we can quickly get your home ready to entertain.
In order to throw the best parties and dinners, you must prepare your house first. Let’s quickly go through a checklist that you must follow through to get your house ready and maintained for spring.
Inspect the roof
After enduring the harshness of the frosty season the roof of your house might be damaged. Check it thoroughly for any damage or missing shingles and get them fixed ASAP. You don’t necessarily have to climb up a ladder to check the roof, peeking through a set of binoculars would be enough. But if you are a bit paranoid like us, then get an expert roofer to check it for you otherwise you can always hop on the roof yourself.
Unclog gutters and downspouts
Frost can leave pipes blocked, going into spring make sure you clear them out ahead of time. If you don’t unclog the pipes it could damage the structure of your house. It might rot the wood in the eave of the place and even attract uninvited critters.
Don’t forget to clear the pipes.
Check all the wooden outdoor structures
Wooden decks, railings, doors, trellises, pergolas and wooden doorframes need to be checked thoroughly to avoid any mold and mildew issues. Reseal all the structures if you can so that they are able to withstand the onslaught of water of the spring rainfalls.
We’d recommend you use a water-based sealer as it dries quickly as compared to an oil-based sealer. An oil-based sealer can even take two to three days to dry out.
Paint
If you are thinking about getting your house painted in the near future, we’d suggest you get to it now. Spring is probably the best time to renew the colors of your house. Everything seems to get a new life in spring so why shouldn’t your house get one too?
And if you can’t paint the entire house, you can only paint the exterior of it.
Be aware of termites
Peruse all the wood structures of your house for termites and smother them before their population booms and infect the entire house.
If you see any signs of their existence immediately contact a professional to disinfect your house.
Irrigation system
Check all the sprinklers in your garden before spring is in full swing. Manually check each unit and see if the head is okay and also the flow of water. Lastly also see if they’re working without any glitches when sprung out automatically.
Assay the driveway
It’s quite possible that after getting through the on and off shower of snow, the asphalt of your driveway is a bit slippery now. To make sure that enough traction is created when wheels trundle on it, stabilize the surface. You can assess the state of your driveway by taking a walk on it. And if it seems a bit too slippery then get it fixed without delaying.
Revitalize your garden
You can’t have a successful get together or party if your garden is iffy. Get it back in its pristine state to have buzzing meetups
To ensure the best possible house maintenance in spring, get through the list carefully and show some love to your abode.
