Brass polishing: A guide that makes the job simple

Using Lemon and Baking Soda

The ingredients you will need will include half a lemon, a teaspoon of baking soda and a small bowl in which you can mix the paste. These ingredients should also be adjusted to suit your needs or the size of your project.

Step 1: Checking To See Whether It Really Is Brass

Before you go ahead with your DIY brass polishing project, it is important to check that you are working with brass.  You can do this by getting hold of a magnet and checking whether it sticks. If it does, then you should probably stop right here.

Step 2: Making a Paste

Grab hold of your bowl and squeeze the half lemon into it. Next, you should add some baking soda over the liquid – so much so that it starts to fizz. Once the fizz has settled down, start stirring the mix until you have a paste.

Step 3: Using a Soft Cloth to Apply the Paste

The brass polishing paste you have formed will now have to be worked into the brass. In order to get the best results, we recommend that you rub the paste using a soft cloth gently over the brass in one direction only. You can even use your fingers to apply this paste equally over the surface of your home project.

Step 4: Rinsing Off the Paste and Leaving To Dry

You can rinse off the paste using a damp soft cloth and let it dry to experience the results. If, however, you think that the results are not up to your expectations, then you can repeat the process from Step 1 as many times as necessary.

Step 5: Giving the Brass a Thorough Rinse

In this step, all you need to do is make sure that none of the paste is left over. Once it has been rubbed over with a damp soft cloth you can now dry the surface using a clean and dry towel.

If you wish to buff the brass surface even further, you should rub it some more with some clean and dry cloth. You can also apply some olive oil on the surface to give it some extra shine.

Finally, you should see that your brass home décor is as good as new.  Brass polishing couldn’t get any easier than this!
