The very sight of rust –whether it is on your garden furniture, bike, or car – causes distress. Rust removers are, therefore, used to remove these corrosive scars off your valuables – and it easier than it sounds.

Scientifically, rust is iron oxide and this occurs when any compound that consists of iron gets exposed to oxygen over a long enough period. Moisture, which is usually in the form of water, tends to be the factor that accelerates this process.

1.     How to Get Rid Of Rust with Vinegar

This is a strong rust remover because it consists of acetic or citric acid. If you want to remove rust from items like screws, then all you need to do is soak them all in vinegar. About half a liter of this natural rust remover will work beautifully and we recommend that you use white vinegar or apple cider. Objects should be ideally placed in this powerful liquid for about a day to experience the best effects.

2.     How to Get Rid Of Rust with Lemon

If you’re having trouble to remove rust from some affected components, then you’ll need to get some elbow grease to get the job done. Now, you will have to raid your kitchen for lime/lemon and some salt – (you can leave out the tequila though!).

Salt will have to be rubbed on the affected area. When it has been coated thoroughly, you can go ahead and squeeze your lime or lemon over the salt. Squeeze out as much juice as possible and then give this powerful rust remover 2 to 3 hours to do its job. Once the time has passed, go ahead and scrub the layer off. You’ll notice that the rust just scours away easily.

3.     How to Get Rid of Rust with WD-40

This multi-use product has been known to be a great counter-agent against rust. It can also be used as a preventative measure. All you will have to do is soak the rusted item with WD-40 and then scrub over it using a wire brush.

You can go ahead and test small areas of the rusted object to check whether WD-40 damages it. If you apply WD-40 regularly on surfaces that are prone to rust, you will never see the rust return. If normal WD-40 products don’t seem to work as efficiently as you imagined, then you can also get yourself the WD-40 Specialist Penetrant.
