How to Remove Duct Tape Residue?

Duct tapes are known to be very powerful adhesives – which is both good and bad. Whenever duct tape is removed, you are definitely going to end up with a sticky and unrelenting residue. There are fortunately some tricks out there that help you to overcome this problem with relative ease.

How to Remove Duct Tape Residue?

1.     Cleaning with Rubbing Alcohol

Step 1: Scraping Off the Residue with a Blade

To do this job, butter knives are ideal tool required but a razor or putty knife may also come in handy. Hold these blades flat against the intended surface and begin gently scraping.

Step 2: Soak Rubbing Alcohol into a Soft Cloth

Use a clean cloth to soak into isopropyl which is available at most drug or medical stores. Once the cloth is damp, you can go ahead and rub the cloth around the surface till you see the adhesive coming off. You will also see the same results if you use nail polish remover or acetone but both of these are known to really damage painted surfaces.

Step 3: Scrub the Surface with Warm Water and Dish Soap

Lastly, you will have to mix about a tablespoon of your preferred detergent into about 2 cups of water and then being stirring till you see a bubbling mixture. When this happens, you can dip a cloth into the mix and then being scrubbing at the intended area. Once you’re done, you find that the surface is no longer slippery or sticky to touch.

2.     Getting Rid of Stubborn Residue

Step 1: Heating the Residue for Quick Removal

Equip yourself with your hairdryer and aim its head towards the stubborn residue. Doing so will soften and loosen the gunk. After a minute or so, you will find that removing it is a piece of cake. Now, begin carefully scraping off the stubborn gunk with a knife.

Step 2: Treat Metal Surfaces with WD-40

You can find WD-40 in most home improvement and general stores. Once you’ve bought the product, begin spraying it directly onto the buildup of stubborn residue. You can also use a terry cloth and soak with WD-40 to rub over the smaller patches of gunk.

Leave the WD-40 film on for about a minute and then wash it off with some water and soap. You’ll find that WD-40 is perfect for cars but do read the canister to find out about surfaces that will definitely stain.

Step 3: Use Sandblasting or Water Pressure to Clean Up
